Prospective GSoC 2027 Contributor: Introduction and Interest in AiiDA

Hello AiiDA community,

My name is Vinesh, and I am a developer with a background in Python and AI/ML. I am writing to introduce myself as a prospective contributor for Google Summer of Code 2027 under the NumFOCUS umbrella.

I have been following AiiDA’s work, particularly the discussions around the Natural Language Interface for AiiDA project. I am very interested in contributing to this area, given my experience with NLP and LLM-based systems.

I have successfully set up a local AiiDA development environment from the aiida-core repository and am currently exploring the codebase and documentation.

I wanted to ask for some guidance on how to get involved early in a meaningful way. Are there any specific design discussions or exploratory prototypes related to the NL interface project that would be useful to follow or contribute to?

I am eager to learn and engage with the community. Thank you for your time.

Environment fully working, ran a CalcJob end-to-end, generated the provenance graph, now running the test suite and reading the engine API. Also commented on issue #2908 and would like to take it as a first PR if still open.

I’ve set up my dev environment and am looking for a meaningful contribution. I see many open issues are v3-related or underspecified. Is there a specific area, perhaps around the NL interface direction or transport/repository layer, where a contribution from an external contributor would be genuinely useful right now?
