Hi all,

I am very new to AiiDa and Quantum Mobile. I have been trying to install the latest version of QM (v24.04.0), but I keep getting a timeout error. This does not occur when I try to download other versions.

What am I doing wrong?

Welcome @aferreira32! Unfortunately, support for Quantum Mobile has been low on the priority list for a while. Can I ask what you’d like to use AiiDA for? I think installing AiiDA in a Python environment and setting up a profile with `verdi presto` would get you up and running quite quickly, see

> **[Quick installation guide — AiiDA 2.7.1 documentation](https://aiida.readthedocs.io/projects/aiida-core/en/stable/installation/guide_quick.html#quick-installation-guide)**

that said, maybe Quantum Mobile is more suitable for your use case. Would be good to know, then we can decide to adapt priorities.

Hi @mbercx , thank you for your prompt reply! I’m learning about DFT in class and was just interested to play around with some basic calculations, for now.

I may install a previous version of QM, because using a Virtual Machine seems easier. Unless you propose otherwise.

@mbercx the host from the direct URL installation in v24.04.0 cannot be resolved. I can’t even ping the host from North America.

```auto
Thanks @aferreira32. I also can’t reach it. I remember some maintenance was planned at the CSCS facilities, so maybe their object store service is unavailable at the moment?
If you’re just running DFT calculations to learn about them, I’m sure the previous version will do nicely. Note that several DFT codes like Quantum ESPRESSO are now also installable via conda/mamba, e.g.:
Ah, it seems the Quantum Mobile files have been migrated, see:
>
> \### Introduction of the project
> \[Quantum Mobile\](http://materialscloud.org/quantum-mobile) is a virtual machine for computational materials science (based on Ubuntu Linux) that comes with a collection of software packages for quantum mechanical calculations, all of which are set up and ready to be used on their own or through the AiiDA python framework for automated workflows and provenance tracking.
>
> \### Why do you want we to add this mirror
> We run regular \[tutorials\](https://aiida-tutorials.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) on the AiiDA framework that use Quantum Mobile, including a \[tutorial in China in 2019\](https://aiida-tutorials.readthedocs.io/en/latest/pages/2019\_Xiamen/index.html) and a \[virtual tutorial with participants from China in 2020\](https://aiida-tutorials.readthedocs.io/en/latest/pages/2020\_Intro\_Week/index.html).
> Since the Quantum Mobile images are hosted in Switzerland, download for participants can be excruciatingly slow (~10 KByte/s).
>
> Over the last two years, according to our bit.ly download tracker, Quantum Mobile has been downloaded over 10'000 times, with a large fraction of downloads coming from China.
So this link should work:
[https://rgw.cscs.ch/matcloud:public-marvel-vms/quantum\_mobile\_24.04.0.ova](https://rgw.cscs.ch/matcloud:public-marvel-vms/quantum_mobile_24.04.0.ova)
I’ll update the links in the documentation. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, @aferreira32!
